What a great course! I recently completed the 8 week beginners course and really enjoyed it. Amelia is a skilled teacher who presents the materials in a easy to follow way. She has great people skills and makes learning a lot of fun. Studying in a group helps a lot and making new connections with like minded people is a bonus. I have gained a lot from this course and am hoping to do another course in the near future. For anyone starting their journey of learning Te Reo Māori or wanting a refresher I would highly recommend this course.

I’ve really enjoyed learning Māori with Amelia. I’ve been able to understand my pepeha and the connection I have to my whenua (land). Amelia’s helped connect me to similar people who are learning te reo Māori living all over the world. I love Māori waiata. Learning te reo Māori has given the lyrics a deeper meaning for me. Amelia explains things well, shares useful ideas, welcomes questions, assigns weekly homework and is patient and encouraging. If you have a hope to reconnect with your Māori heritage or deepen your understanding of the reo, give her online classes a go. I was the recipient of a scholarship and then went on to pay for the 8 week beginners course as well. I can highly recommend taking classes with Amelia.

Couldn’t recommend this course enough! Recently finished the 8 week beginners course, and about to start the next level. The course is full of so many helpful recourses and support from Amelia, she is always happy to help. I loved learning Te Reo Māori (the Māori language) and about Te Ao Māori (Māori culture), it really helped me connect with my Māori heritage while living abroad.

Learn Māori Abroad is the perfect course for anyone who is interested in learning Reo Māori or even about the Māori culture through language. Learning a language can be difficult in adulthood, but Amelia's program is the perfect mix of academic curriculum, approachable and non-intimidating teaching methods, and fun! She is so incredibly kind and patient, and she really creates a non-judgmental, friendly environment in her group lessons. She really encourages her students and creates a culture of community within her classes. This is something I really love about her course and teaching style, because as I said, learning a language can be intimidating, and sometimes we let our fears and insecurities from allowing us to simply try. Amelia gives us the space to try, and try again, with aroha (love) and encouragement until we get it right! She is a true gem and I would recommend this class to everyone!

I was fortunate enough to jump on the 8 week beginners Te Reo course and had an amazing experience. I've often felt shy or embarrassed in Te Reo learning environments but Amelia facilitates such a supportive environment to learn! I felt comfortable to give it a go and make mistakes. Amelia is really responsive to emails/messages, answering questions or giving feedback, which was really helpful. Having accountability buddies also made a world of difference in my learning.
